VA Housebound Pension Allowance

Monthly pension supplement for wartime veterans who are permanently housebound due to disability. Distinct from Aid and Attendance — Housebound applies when a veteran is substantially confined to the immediate premises due to a permanent disability, or has a 100% disability rating plus an additional separate disability rated 60% or more. Cannot be received simultaneously with Aid and Attendance.

What it offers

Monthly pension supplement for wartime veterans who are permanently housebound. Dec. 1, 2025 to Nov. 30, 2026 rates (+2.8% COLA): single veteran Housebound MAPR $21,313/year; veteran with one dependent $26,710/year. For Survivors Pension, the surviving-spouse Housebound MAPR is $14,298/year with no dependents or $17,902/year with one dependent child. Veteran eligibility requires meeting one of two criteria: substantially confined to immediate premises due to a permanent disability, or a schedular 100% combined disability rating plus a separate service-connected disability rated 60% or more. Net worth limit is $163,699. Housebound and Aid and Attendance cannot be received at the same time; only the higher applicable supplement applies. Apply through VA pension forms or VA.gov.

Questions that decide eligibility

GiveCare prepares the questions; the program makes the decision. Bring these to the call or the application:

  1. 01

What are the current income and asset limits, and whose income counts?

Our record lists an asset limit around $163,699 — limits change, so confirm the current figures.

  2. 02

What counts as a qualifying disability or level of care need, and what documentation shows it?

  3. 03

Does the veteran’s service history and discharge status fit this program’s rules?

  4. 04

Does the VA disability rating meet the program’s minimum (our record lists null%)?

  5. 05

Do the work hours meet the minimum (our record lists null hours)?

  6. 06

Is there a caregiver-specific department, coordinator, or support line? Ask for it by name.

Many agencies have one that isn’t advertised on the website.

  7. 07

What documents do you need from us to start an application?

  8. 08

Is there a waitlist right now, and how long is it?
