Utah Aging and Adult Services, Area Agencies on Aging, and 211 Resource Navigation

Utah caregivers can use Utah DHHS Aging and Adult Services, local Area Agencies on Aging, 211 Utah, and the Utah DHHS 211 resource directory to find aging, disability, caregiver, home and community-based services, respite, caregiver education, support groups, assistive supplies, Medicare counseling, meals, legal, housing, health, transportation, safety, and community-service referrals.

What it offers

Utah DHHS Aging and Adult Services says it serves as a link between the national Administration on Aging and local programs and Area Agencies on Aging. Its services include caregiver support, home and community-based alternatives, health, wellness, nutrition, legal services, Medicare assistance, and senior employment. The caregiver support program serves unpaid caregivers of older adults, people with dementia of any age, people with disabilities, and older adults caring for minor children; it provides access to resources and services, counseling, caregiver and dementia education, support groups, respite care, and assistive supplies through local Area Agencies on Aging. 211 Utah is a statewide service-navigation partnership of Utah United Ways that provides free, confidential, multilingual help and broad support connecting Utahns to health and human resources. Utah DHHS's 211 directory describes 211 Utah as health and human services service navigation through comprehensive information and referral, disaster information, and an online database.

Questions that decide eligibility

GiveCare prepares the questions; the program makes the decision. Bring these to the call or the application:

  1. 01

Does the person receiving care live in Utah?

Residency is usually the first thing a program checks.

  2. 02

Does your relationship to the person — spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, other relative, or non relative — count for this program?

  3. 03

Does the VA disability rating meet the program’s minimum (our record lists null%)?

  4. 04

Do the work hours meet the minimum (our record lists null hours)?

  5. 05

Is there a caregiver-specific department, coordinator, or support line? Ask for it by name.

Many agencies have one that isn’t advertised on the website.

  6. 06

What documents do you need from us to start an application?

  7. 07

Is there a waitlist right now, and how long is it?
