New Jersey ADRC, County AAA, and 211 Resource Navigation

New Jersey caregivers can use the statewide Aging and Disability Resource Connection, county Area Agencies on Aging, and NJ 211 to find aging, disability, caregiver, long-term services and supports, respite, home and community-based services, housing, food, utility, health, legal, transportation, and other community referrals.

What it offers

New Jersey's Division of Aging Services highlights ADRC as the doorway to aging and disability services, 21 county Area Agencies on Aging for county senior and caregiver services, and NJ 211 for statewide help. New Jersey disability-resource guidance says people can call 211, text their ZIP code to 898-211, or visit NJ 211 for help finding nearby services, and that help is available 24/7. The same guidance says New Jersey's 21 county AAAs serve as ADRC lead agencies, helping seniors, adults with disabilities, and caregivers access basic information and long-term services and supports. I Choose Home NJ says county ADRCs are one-stop shops for aging and disability services available in the state and county, can help people understand government programs they may qualify for, and can connect them with county and local services. NJ 211 provides guided search and 24/7 phone, chat, text, and web access for housing, utilities, income, food, health, mental health, legal, substance-use, children and family, and related community resources.

Questions that decide eligibility

GiveCare prepares the questions; the program makes the decision. Bring these to the call or the application:

  1. 01

Does the person receiving care live in New Jersey?

Residency is usually the first thing a program checks.

  2. 02

Does your relationship to the person — spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, other relative, or non relative — count for this program?

  3. 03

Does the VA disability rating meet the program’s minimum (our record lists null%)?

  4. 04

Do the work hours meet the minimum (our record lists null hours)?

  5. 05

Is there a caregiver-specific department, coordinator, or support line? Ask for it by name.

Many agencies have one that isn’t advertised on the website.

  6. 06

What documents do you need from us to start an application?

  7. 07

Is there a waitlist right now, and how long is it?
