Maryland Caregiver Expense Grant Program
Maryland's Caregiver Expense Grant Program is an enacted Department of Aging grant program for eligible caregivers who pay qualified expenses for a qualified family member. Chapter 161 of 2024 replaced the proposed tax-credit structure with a grant program; the current Comptroller tax-credit index does not verify an active caregiver-specific Maryland income tax credit.
What it offers
Chapter 161 of 2024 established a Maryland Department of Aging Caregiver Expense Grant Program. Subject to available funding, an eligible caregiver may apply for a grant equal to 30% of qualified expenses that exceed $2,000, capped at $2,500 per fiscal year. The caregiver's federal AGI must not exceed $75,000 for an individual filer or $150,000 for a joint filer. Qualified family-member paths include older adults age 60+, people with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder, and children or adults with developmental or functional disabilities under the statute's caregiver-age and relationship rules.
Questions that decide eligibility
GiveCare prepares the questions; the program makes the decision. Bring these to the call or the application:
- 01
Does the person receiving care live in Maryland?
Residency is usually the first thing a program checks.
- 02
Does the VA disability rating meet the program’s minimum (our record lists null%)?
- 03
Do the work hours meet the minimum (our record lists null hours)?
- 04
Is there a caregiver-specific department, coordinator, or support line? Ask for it by name.
Many agencies have one that isn’t advertised on the website.
- 05
What documents do you need from us to start an application?
- 06
Is there a waitlist right now, and how long is it?
