Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP)
HRSA-funded program training the health care and supportive care workforce to care for older adults, with a significant caregiver education component. Over $206 million awarded to 42 grantees. At least $230,000 per grantee annually must fund Alzheimer's and dementia-related education and training, including training for family caregivers.
What it offers
Free caregiver training and education delivered through 42 HRSA-funded grantees. Training topics include: dementia care, geriatric care techniques, age-friendly health practices, and telehealth-delivered caregiver support. Over 57,500 individuals trained, 22% of whom were patients, families, or lay caregivers. Grantees collaborate with community partners to maximize patient and family engagement.
